Bobby Fischer, wackoSubmitted by drbill on Sat, 2005-03-26 09:18.
Totally unhinged former chess champion Bobby Fischer, longtime fugitive for violating sanctions against Yugoslavia, was shown on ESPN SportsCenter ranting against the "dirty Jews" that he blames for all sorts of imaginary crimes.
ESPN reporter Jeremy Schaap was at this press conference, and was calm and dignified as Fischer ranted his anti-semitic nonsense and criticized his late father, the famous sports reporter Dick Schaap. One thing in particular he was angry about was that Schaap had written that Fischer "didn't have a sane bone in his body."
Finally, Fischer singled out Schaap, claiming that his father, "like a typical Jewish snake," had betrayed him by writing negative things about him after befriending him when he was young. Schaap calmly said that he hadn't read the "sane bone" comment, but had heard his father say it, and said, "Honestly, you haven't done much here today to disprove anything he said." Checkmate.
If a person has great talent in some area, e.g. chess, it doesn't mean that we need to pay special attention to what he says about something else. Remember this the next time you hear a rock star or actor talking about politics.
