Meet the new boss…

In Afghanistan, a man is in jeopardy of losing his life because he converted from Islam to Christianity (Michelle Malkin has all you need to know. Start here and scroll down.). He is heroically brave in facing his fate ("Don't fear those that can only kill your body"). This morning, I hear that he may get a reprieve based on being found "insane" in a sort of Soviet-era sense.

Whether this individual man is killed or not, the fact that this is happening at all is a tragic sign of the failure of democracy in Afghanistan. There can be no democracy without freedom of religion. If the State can tell you what to believe, then it truly has no limits on its power. The Afghan government must end this travesty and move towards real democracy, or face the end of all American aid. Our troops there should stay to continue to exterminate the remaining Taliban and al-Qaeda forces there, but there should be no more help for the Afghans.

If this is what they do with freedom, then they're on their own. Hell is ultimately a place not to which people are sent but a place they choose to go.
